Free entry to footie for former mine workers

Former mineworkers are invited to attend for free Ashington AFC’s home game this Saturday, April 13.The club is making the offer to mark the 40th anniversary of the 1984-85 Miners Strike. The opposition is Grantham Town.

Those who worked in coal mining are simply asked to arrive at the game and state that they were a mineworkers. Kick off is 3pm.

An Ashington AFC spokesman said: “This is our way of saying thank you – thank you for your tireless dedication, your unwavering commitment, and your enduring legacy. Without you, our club wouldn't be what it is today.

"So, let's come together as a community, as we always have, to celebrate our shared history and the bonds that unite us. Let's fill the stands with pride, passion, and gratitude for those who came before us."
