Durham Miners pay tribute to Dick Quin

Everyone at the Durham Miners Association (DMA) is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Dick Quin, who served as secretary of the DMA Brass Band for more than three decades.

An electrician at Dawdon Colliery, Dick became the librarian for Blackhall Youth Band when his daughter joined the band in the late 1970s. That band evolved into the DMA Brass Band we have today. Dick became secretary in 1982 and remained in that role until his retirement in 2015.

DMA Secretary Alan Mardghum said: “Dick was a really lovely man who did a wonderful job running the band for many years. Nothing was ever too much trouble for him. He encouraged and supported many young people to play brass band music.

“Our condolences go to his family and friends.”
